How to Deal With Anxiety At Work

When you suffer from social anxiety at work, your interactions get very inhibited. A “harmless personality trait” can become a major obstacle that stands in the way of fulfillment and productivity. There is no magic pill to cure the problem. As with all aspects of life, if you really want to get the most out of your social interactions on the job and after hours, you have to put some effort into them.

The root of the word “succeed” means to follow through. As we have heard many times before, ideas are a dime a dozen. It’s the following through on an idea that makes the difference between “just a dream” and a reality.

There is a lot of value in recording your goals. If your goal is to rid yourself of anxiety, you should begin with small steps. As you start to feel more confident, you gently move through the more difficult, challenging steps. One way of organizing these steps is to make a list. This is a list of actions or situations, ordered according to the level of difficulty, starting with the easiest and moving to more challenging ones.

If, by the end of three days, you’ve accomplished this goal, move on to the next step; that is, actually greeting your superiors. If you notice that you are having difficulty moving past a certain step in the list, it’s time to take a break and identify stumbling blocks.

Once you have cleared out the negative thinking, restored you self-esteem, or adjusted your goals, then you are back on track and can proceed again. As you continue with this method, you’ll notice your confidence growing.
